FUNDRAISING EVENT - Friday 2nd December

We have had lots of fun today at school!  The Year 6's organised lots of fun activities to do and everyone helped by bringing food to sell.  The money raised will help to pay for the Year 6 graduation and also go to schools effected by the earthquake in Kaikoura.

Thanks for your support!

CULTURAL EVENING AND PICNIC AT SCHOOL.  Thursday 1st December.

Welcome to the world of Harry Potter & Hogwarts!

Displaying IMG_4717.JPG

Our class has had an amazing few weeks reading about the world of Harry Potter, his friends and foes and getting to know all about his magical school, Hogwarts!  We enjoyed reading the story so much we created a Learning Centre.  We have been working incredibly hard (while having lots of fun) to create many types of writing (persuasive speeches, postcards, letters, stamps, dust covers, sociograms and book reviews.  We have also created maps and cross-sections of parts of Hogwarts and have been making board games to play related to the story.  Parents and families are welcome to come in and enjoy our 'Harry Potter' work with us!

Corban Estate Arts Centre Trip

Corban Estate Arts Centre Trip
Wednesday 23rd November 2016.

On Wednesday our class was very excited about visiting the Arts Centre and meeting the Pacific Mamas!  We had a great time learning greetings from some of the Pacific Islands, including Niue, Hawaii, Fiji, Samoa and Rarotonga.  We learnt that the way we greet others shows our respect and care for them (hopefully we were already pretty good at this)!

Once we had greeted each other warmly, Room 22 and Room 23 went into different rooms to learn how to drum, dance and create our own beautiful lei necklaces.

We had an amazing time exploring the Pacific culture, celebrations, and also learned more about the way that drums were used to communicate across the island villages.  It was fun trying out the dances and drum rhythms and great to see the parents and children getting involved!

Thank you to everyone who came along with us. We really appreciate your support.

Here are The Mamas!  ALOOOOOOOOHHAAA!

Great effort boys!

Go girls!  Looking great!

It took a little while, but we got the hang of it!

Learning how to make lei from the experts.

Athletics Day!

It was great to see everyone 'giving it a go' today during the Year 4 - 6 running races.  Well done to all our place winners and to those who went off to compete against other classes in the discus, shot put, high jump and long jump competitions.  Some of our students will be going to the Inter School Competition.  Congratulations to them!  We are very proud of you!

ROOM 22 & 23's TERRIFIC ASSEMBLY!

Well done to all of the children in our team!  Mrs Bellehewe and I are so proud of the way you all worked so hard to prepare for our assembly items, then performed the items wonderfully on the big day! You all looked awesome on stage...  All that hard work really paid off!  I hope your families also enjoyed the show!

Welcome back to school for Term 4!

It was fantastic to see everyone again and hear all about your holidays.  We have made a great start to this term at school...

We've been writing recounts about our holidays, reading great books, including our class book: 'Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone' which is great fun!

We have also been learning about fractions and finding the fraction of a shape or a set of objects in Maths.  We had a subtraction basic facts test today.  Three people got 100% - Yahoo!  Keep working on your basic facts knowledge at home.  It really helps you to improve!  We are now focusing on our four times tables.  For those that know these already, you can work on improving your speed of recall, or try some more challenging times tables.

This week we have also had two sessions related to Civil Defence's 'Get Ready NZ' campaign.  We have been learning about natural disasters and how we can help our families be prepared for them.

For the next 6 weeks on Thursdays our school is having a 'Cultural Rotation'.  This involves each student being part of two different groups outside of our own room.  The options are:  Kapa Haka, Pacifika, Art, Movie making, Jump Jam, Poi & Te Rakau, Choir and Chinese Fan Dancing.  We are so lucky to have the opportunity to experience many different activities within our school!

To finish, I have a lovely quote to share from Olivia today:  'I love being at school and spending time with our class and our teacher!"  Thanks, Olivia - I enjoy spending time with you all too!
